On one of my commutes between FTC and Sheridan it was a very snowy and cold dark lonely drive. I was passed by a truck and then a few minutes later an old Buick going 10 mph faster than I was. 15 minutes down the road I noticed the Buick in the median with the driver backing up then forward and full throttle repeatedly. He was attempting to get back on the road. By the time I reached him he had made it back to the highway. I pulled alongside to get the story and see if he needed help. He said his wife was driving and got behind the truck and couldn't see due to the truck-induced whiteout conditions and she ran off the road. That woke the husband and he was going to drive the rest of the way into Sheridan.
Another time I pulled alongside someone on the right side of the road and rolled down my passenger window to talk to him through his open driver's side window. My Prius shuts its engine off when coasting and stopped. He never heard me pull up! I startled him when I asked if he needed help.
